Please LIKE (if you like it!), Comment, FAVE & Share! (I know, shameless.) In this, my first lesson on YouTube, I’m teaching “Lagavullin”, by Peppino D’Agostino. Peanut gallery commentary by the cat is included as a bonus! Years ago (almost 20 now), I was living in San Francisco, and stopped into a store, I think it was Guitar Solo, and inquired about guitar teachers. Up to that point, I had been studying fingerstyle from recorded lessons by Duck Baker and Stefan Grossman, and I was looking to branch out and delve more into jazz. I was given two instructors’ names. One of them was Peppino D’Agostino. I called him up and asked him what style of music he played (I had never heard of him), and when he told me, I decided to go with the other teacher, who specifically taught jazz guitar. I ended up taking one lesson. A month or so later, I went to see Leo Kottke play in SF. Peppino opened up for him. As you can imagine, I felt like a complete idiot after hearing his set. So I bought his two cassettes, got a little device to slow down the audio, and set to work learning as many of his songs as I could. The first was “Lagavullin”, off of his album “Sparks”. It’s been quite a while since I’ve sat down to listen to the song again, so I would say that this is my interpretation of it. But it should be pretty close. Upcoming (eventually): Bella Donna, maybe Ancora Un Istante, and a few others. I hope to do a lesson on some of the harder passages in Spring Fever and The Road Scholar …
